Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a neurological disorder that affects movement, muscle tone, and coordination. It is caused by abnormal brain development or brain damage before, during, or shortly after birth. CP is classified into different types, including spastic (stiff muscles), dyskinetic (uncontrolled movements), ataxic (poor balance and coordination), and mixed. Symptoms vary from mild to severe and may include difficulty walking, muscle stiffness, tremors, poor posture, and speech impairments. Some children may also experience intellectual disabilities, seizures, and vision or hearing problems. While there is no cure, early intervention through physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy can improve motor skills, mobility, and independence. Physiotherapy focuses on stretching, strengthening, and functional exercises to enhance muscle control. Assistive devices such as braces, walkers, and wheelchairs help improve mobility. Medications, Botox injections, and surgery may be required for severe muscle tightness. A supportive and multidisciplinary approach ensures better quality of life and maximized functional abilities for individuals with CP.
