Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) is a condition characterized by pain around the front of the knee, particularly where the patella (kneecap) meets the femur (thigh bone). It is commonly seen in runners, cyclists, and athletes engaging in repetitive knee bending. The condition develops due to muscle imbalances, improper kneecap alignment, or overuse. Symptoms include dull, aching pain around the kneecap, worsened by squatting, climbing stairs, or sitting for long periods. Treatment involves physical therapy, strengthening exercises, orthotics, and activity modification to reduce stress on the knee.
